ABSTRACT

Committees and task forces are the seat of much power in academia and are catalysts for altering the culture, policies, and practices of an institution. They can influence teaching and learning at multiple levels of the institution, from decision-making to planning the directives and implementation of large-scale initiatives. Shared governance and institutional leadership between administrators and faculty typically occurs through institutional committees, and it is where change agents gather. After the highest level of administration determines and sets new initiatives, more campus leaders become involved in planning how to make the initiatives become operational. The common and traditional domains of expertise for instructional development have often included knowledge about pedagogy, technology, and student learning and development. Most likely, they are part of these initiatives because of their expertise and knowledge of pedagogy, curriculum development skills, the change process, and higher education trends and resources.
