ABSTRACT

The organizational development role clearly was affected by other factors not identified by the survey. In order to understand a redefined organizational development role in this current context and the accompanying extent of change this entails for developers and centers, it is important to examine this role as a change process by drawing from multiple study methods and comparing the results. A summary of the institutional initiatives in which the case study directors were involved is discussed first and followed by the cross-case center, director, and institution-based factors that reportedly either enabled or impeded involvement in institutional change. Important to note, the primary factors revealed by the case study interviews had not been identified at the time of the survey as the survey preceded the interviews by several months. This coherence, between institutional mission, center mission, and center programing, enabled the director to make decisions that seamlessly merged the instructional and organizational development aspects of their role.
