ABSTRACT

The technology used for delivering training was minimal, as was the technology an advisor needed to effectively advise. Technology training and development also must be considered within the context of multicultural competence and access. It also highlights the importance of intentionality of technology use across service (systems), engagement (communication), and learning tools. Howard and Sauter’s blended model of competency and action provides an important conceptual framework for understanding and unpacking effective training on advising technology tools. Technology can greatly augment the delivery and application of advisor training and professional development. However, people have attitudes regarding technology that need to be addressed in training, and the training needs to be situated within the culture into which the technology tool is being introduced. By using an intentional design process to create learning outcomes and objectives for trainings, the focus is on the learner more than the technology.
