ABSTRACT

Articulating goals and translating them into relevant learning outcomes is an opportunity for us as a faculty member to support the mission and values of our institution, or the promises of our program, or even to direct our individual expertise or passion for particular content into curriculum. An important source of learning outcomes are the professional and disciplinary associations such as the American Association of Health Education, the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language, or the National Communication Association. Future employers and community partners are another related source of learning goals and outcomes. Faculty and students are important but often neglected sources of learning outcomes. The taxonomies take care of some of the mechanics of writing learning outcomes.
