ABSTRACT

The author is getting married. This seems like every woman’s dream. Every woman’s moment. A chaotic moment, but a moment that seems a part of the traditional American dream. When she first graduated college, the author figured her parents, or rather her mother, wouldn’t be as hard on her. Perhaps, it would finally be okay to wear a tie and a faded haircut. The author's first love was her kindergarten teacher. But love means nothing on a Monday morning after recess. She felt with each love she gained a new perspective. She learned about pain from her family and she learned about love from strangers. The author figured that her first day of college would be different. She was no stranger to isolation. So, she withdrew herself and hid behind the shell of leadership. She was a theater student her freshman year, so it was easy to perform.
