ABSTRACT

Today, the author is proud to say that she work for a female faculty member as a graduate research assistant. She has served as an example of how to craft a strong academic career while making time for family and friends. Although the author appreciate her kindness and constant support, She find herself gravitating back toward two men in the department, one of whom serves as her faculty academic advisor. Extending her thinking beyond the workplace, the author have often struggled with feelings of invisibility as an Asian American woman. Despite their statistical overrepresentation among college students relative to the general population, Asian Americans seem invisible within the field of higher education and student affairs. There have been good faith efforts to provide space for both gender and race within feminist dialogues, such as the American College Personnel Association’s Standing Committee for Women’s Sister Circles.
