ABSTRACT

Texas Christian University (TCU) is a private, coeducational, largely residential liberal arts university located in Fort Worth, Texas. Assessment of student learning has long been a part of teaching and learning practice at TCU. Assessment is a part of teaching and learning and must be a formative process with the goal of continuously improving student learning through meaningful curriculum modifications and improvements and enhancements in pedagogy. The Office for Institutional Effectiveness follows up with each department on an annual basis, submits reports for the institution for accreditation, and ensures that the assessment process is ongoing and functioning in ways that allow for both the improvement of learning and the sharing of information for accountability. TCU uses an assessment rubric to help departments improve their assessment planning and evaluate the mission, goals, measures, findings, and action plans.
