ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the institutional assessment and effectiveness practices and procedures that comprise the University of Florida (UF) assessment system. The assessment system is a coordinated and carefully designed set of processes and tools used by university accreditation coordinators, administrators, and faculty to submit, review, and store academic program assessment plans, institutional effectiveness plans, and data reports. The chapter begins with a description of the institutional context. It describes the academic assessment and institutional effectiveness processes for planning and reporting goals and outcomes for each unit, communication strategies, and ongoing evaluation and improvement of internal processes. The chapter addresses the internal structures that drive these processes and how these have shaped the assessment system. UF created an Academic Assessment Committee to provide faculty oversight of the academic assessment process.
