ABSTRACT

This chapter shares how faculty in two grassroots faculty organizations have pursued a family-friendly agenda that resulted in positive changes on their campuses related to their work. Two different paths of family-friendly activism can help existing and aspiring activists think of new approaches to push their campuses to become more family friendly. Although grassroots activism can be an individual activity, the chapter focuses on the grassroots activism of collectives that come together to address feminist issues, including trying to foster a family-friendly climate. Specifically, their agendas included creating and implementing tenure clock stoppage and modified duties policies, establishing convenient childcare and sick childcare, creating a university work-life office, increasing healthcare coverage, and enacting partner benefits. Beth explains that meeting with administrators has had little influence on FWC's family-friendly agenda, and as a result, it has sought other ways to advance its goals.
