ABSTRACT

As the national college of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), the College of the Marshall Islands (CMI) has a special responsibility to assess students’ learning to ensure that the courses meet the needs of the students and of the nation. Student learning outcomes and the process of assessing them have developed over two decades at CMI. The RMI consists of 29 atolls and five separate islands with a total land area of 70.05 square miles across 750,000 square miles of the central Pacific. CMI is an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution. The priority activities of the coach include training new faculty in SLO assessment, addressing assessment issues, and offering individual or small-group coaching. Assessment coaching provides a safe environment for faculty to voice confusion or resistance, seek advice relating to designing plans and completing assessment reports, and for collecting feedback of their assessment.
