ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses in greater detail the structure and operation of the Police Corps class. Collectively, the Police Corps readings, the criminal justice internships, and the police rides and police speakers were designed to afford students the opportunity to evaluate the Police Corps and, as noted, to reflect about future Police Corps courses. The writing requirements for the internship were relatively straightforward, a diary of experiences, coupled with a separate essay on the relationship between the internship experience and the Police Corps proposal. The writing requirement of the seminar was the major expected product. In the corruption paper, the student interned not with the police but with a criminal court judge, though the judge was helpful in smoothing the way for some of the interviews with the police. In addition to learning much about what might be reexamined in future Police Corps courses, the course also was successful in giving students research experience.
