ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the retirement benefits and programs that Georgia Tech provides to make retirement a viable and attractive option for faculty in the absence of a mandatory retirement policy, as well as to ensure that the institute continues to benefit from the contributions retirees make to the ongoing pursuit of institutional excellence and effectiveness. It deals with some anecdotal information obtained from the Georgia Tech news archives and interviews with more than 20 retirees, as well as some tentative next steps for further enhancing the retiree experience at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet the diverse needs of the faculty and staff. All regular faculty and staff are required to participate in either the Teachers Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Plan. Georgia Tech faculty have two comprehensive medical plans to choose from: the Open Access Point of Service (POS) and the Health Savings Account Open Access POS.
