ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the category of middle-range theories that center attention on a clearly delineated set of concepts that are empirically testable across a range of colleges and universities. It provides guidance on future research on the relationship between organizational behavior and student persistenc. The book suggests that the institutional settings for all future studies of college student persistence should work to include private 4-year colleges and universities and both public and private 2-year colleges. It also offers a framework for the translation of theory and research into retention strategies that can guide intentional engagement in a scholarship of practice by institutional practitioners. The book provides guidance for institutional leaders who wish to use a data-informed systems perspective to create and sustain organizational change to improve student retention.
