ABSTRACT

In the Wizard of Oz, the story goes that Dorothy and her friends travel down an enchanting yellow road in search of their dreams. Each of them has a different goal. Oz is the magic place that will give each of them what they need. And so, they walk this path laid before them. They encounter all kinds of obstacles and scary experiences. But they ease on down the road. And when they get to Oz they find that it’s not what they thought. Dorothy and her crew find that they really didn’t need the magic of Oz to become whole, full people. Glinda the Good Witch tells Dorothy that she has always had the power, she just had to learn it for herself (Baum, 2000). Dorothy had the ability to fulfill her dreams from the start. A magical wizard didn’t give her the tools of resilience and perseverance—it was Auntie Em and Uncle Henry—old folk who loved her with everything they had on a small, modest farm in Kansas.
