ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to understand the extent to which Islamophobia, the closed-minded prejudice against or hatred of Islam and Muslims, through President Trump's exclusionary Muslim bans has manifested and institutionalized itself into intolerance and discrimination at higher education institutions for Muslim college students. And although the Association of University Professors is correct about the negative effects these exclusionary policies will have on college students, the targeting of Muslim college students and criminalization of them is nothing new. The proposed Muslim exclusionary policies have a broader impact on more than just national security and immigration. The guises of free speech that universities are hiding behind help to create the pathway for more discrimination, intolerance, and marginalization of Muslim college students. On college campuses across the nation, activists, students, and faculty, dismayed by these depictions, have rightfully feared the impact the Muslim bans, and the discussions surrounding them, would have on Muslim American student life.
