ABSTRACT

There is growing evidence that integrating youth service with the curriculum contributes to the motivation, growth, and achievement of students. [See Root, beginning on p. 42, for a summary of research on learner outcomes associated with service-learning.] Students come to appreciate the talents and perspectives of their classmates as they work side by side to have an impact on a community issue. Students develop collaboration, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills needed to be successful learners and contributing citizens in the 21st century.
