ABSTRACT

Pick up any local newspaper or log on to any higher education trade publication, and higher education crises are likely to be included among the top headlines. Based on the successes and failures of academe’s previous responses, campus leaders are being held to higher and higher standards for their communications with the audiences they need to reach. In addition, they are judged on their level of participation in the media and the successes of these efforts. The days of presidents receiving a pass from the media and general public for their response to a crisis are over.
