ABSTRACT

Avariety of potential disasters seem to lie in wait for schools and universities today. Regardless of the source—intruders, accidents, hazardous material spills, or natural disasters—campus leadership must be in place and ready to act. Not surprising to many of us, our degrees generally fail to prepare those in leadership positions for unexpected events and the human, economic, infrastructure, construction, and environmental consequences. Further, our academic environments train us to collect and analyze data over time, waiting to draw a conclusion. However, disasters do not wait for data analysis to unfold; they require rapid decisions in a context of uncertainty.
