ABSTRACT
“Education is an act of love” (Layne & Freire, 1974, p. 34). With this sentence, Paulo Freire, one of the most influential educators of the twentieth century, summarized his pedagogical philosophy and captured the views of a long list of thinkers who, since antiquity and after him, have considered love an essential element of teaching and learning (Yue, 2014).
