ABSTRACT
The purpose of this article is to show the interrelationship between chronic diseases and identity development. Statistics on chronic disease will be followed by an examination of the philosophical underpinnings of identity models. Chronic disease identity models and common themes in the chronic illness literature will be reviewed. Last, I will consider possibilities for future research.
