Introduction

Author Larry Spence, an associate professor of political science at Penn State, was recognized for distinguished teaching with two university-wide teaching awards and one from the College of Liberal Arts. After 25 years teaching, he became the founding director of the university's Schreyer Institute for Innovation in Learning. Upon his retirement, he directed a series of learning initiatives in Penn State's School of Information Sciences and Technology and The Smeal College of Business. He died as he was working on the final chapter of this book.
