ABSTRACT
Teaching methods are grounded in adult learning philosophies and adult learning theory. This chapter provides an overview of learning philosophies including behaviorist, constructivist, and social learning theory. Traditional learning theories such as andragogy, self-directed learning, experiential learning, and self-directed learning are discussed as well as newer approaches to learning such as embodied learning. The learning theories’ application to the classroom is explored.
