ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on using the arts to facilitate adult learning across the curriculum, rather than classes specifically designed to teach the arts. Several arts-based pedagogical strategies are explored, including embodied learning through dance, theater, poetry and creative prose, playwriting, visual arts, photography, film, music, and digital media. Students learn through creating their own art and by witnessing art created by others. Arts-based online learning is discussed, as well as learning in informal settings. Attention is given to methods of assessment of arts-based assignments.
