ABSTRACT

This chapter contains specific activities and critical insights for faculty, student affairs administrators, and other staff who wish to create and support organizations for mixed, multiracial, and transracial adoptee students on their campuses. It presents race ideology, powerblindness, positionality, and multiracial microaggressions as four constructs necessary for critical exploration of the colonial and racialized contexts of US postsecondary education. The authors argue that advisers must find more inclusive critical pedagogy that allows the increasingly diverse student populations to build, share, express, and center their narratives in educational contexts that were not made for their academic and personal success. Understanding the impact of monoracial contexts within campus is key for advisers efforts to support students as they continue to navigate racialized landscapes. The authors hope that the analysis, activities, and guidance provided herein enhance and inform your continued work on your respective campuses.
