ABSTRACT

This chapter provides ways in which change has occurred and will continue to occur and have addressed change with regard to the contexts and current practices in specialist roles and emerging structures in student affairs organizations. It gives attention to how student affairs leaders can facilitate organizational change while incorporating specialist roles and hybrid structures in their organizations. The chapter discusses how small colleges and universities as well as community colleges are currently meeting today's challenges through their unique approaches to using emerging roles and structures in their student affairs organizations. The chapter summarizes the major themes the chapter authors have covered, while exploring the need for student affairs practitioners to consider the development of specialist roles and structures to meet today's challenges in their work with constituencies, most important of which is the students on their campuses.
