ABSTRACT

Given everything, Eva feels she has been very successful in her graduate coursework thus far, being able to manage the demands of graduate work with her full-time professional position and her family. In the course she is in right now, however, her feelings are those of consternation. After working as an educator for 20 years, she feels that she has much to offer her educational administration program. The faculty member leading her teaching effectiveness course, however, does not seem to care what Eva or any other student thinks. Most classes are led through a lecture format, allowing students very little time to discuss their experiences and insights. When Eva has offered her experiences in class to highlight a particular concept, she repeatedly feels “shut down” by the faculty member who does not seem to enjoy sharing the spotlight. Eva is frustrated but doesn't know how to broach this subject with the faculty member. She considers talking to the department chair instead.
