ABSTRACT

Millions have suffered through traumatic loss and isolation because of the COVID-19 pandemic; its impact on people's lives cannot be overstated. The pandemic created challenges that forced them to examine their usefulness, agency, and roles within their organization. It made people question their purpose, their execution, and whether they were doing enough. This struggle resulted in more clarity about who they are and what they want to be for the University of Southern California (USC). USC’s Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET), and Information Technology Services (ITS), were the units primarily responsible for helping faculty make the transition to teaching online. CET is a service unit, funded by the Provost, that reports to the Executive Vice Provost. The center has ample physical and virtual resources to provide training to small and large groups. All CET’s staff are full-time employees.
