ABSTRACT

The United States is experiencing a multitude of crises, from climate change to political polarization, all of which affect our work in higher education. Like all educational developers in spring 2020, the authors were challenged with training their faculty to shift to fully remote instruction on short notice. This chapter describes how the authors set about this training with an emphasis on educational technology and inclusive pedagogy, how they made it sustainable for their small staff, how they designed the innovations to be responsive and proactive to further disruptions, and how they view our responsibility to the future. Numbers fluctuate due to the vagaries of shifting appointments, but generally CAT+FD employs five to eight people who attempt to engage and involve a body of approximately 200 faculty. The nature of our scheduled events has shifted and evolved over time.
