ABSTRACT

Located half-way between New York City and Philadelphia and a block from a Northeast Corridor station with commuter trains stopping several times an hour, Covid-19 came to Rutgers University-New Brunswick (RU-NB) early. In responding to the rapid pandemic-necessitated pivot to remote instruction, RU-NB's decentralized approach to supporting Teaching and Learning had some distinct advantages. In winter 2020, our work with RU Global supporting international students and Study Abroad put Covid-19 on our radar early. Many were in households struggling through unemployment and some had already lost family members to Covid. When asked whether they agreed that "Despite the abrupt change to remote instruction due to the Covid-19 disruption, the instructor offered an effective learning experience in this course", the mean student response was an impressive 4.93 out of five with 83% agreeing or strongly agreeing.
