ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the course of the pandemic and how higher education responded. As all students were doing their best to adjust to the new pandemic landscape of higher education, so too were the junior tenure seeking, senior tenure track faculty, and adjunct instructors. Key insights from this survey include concerns for student equity and success, the higher challenge of teaching blended and flexible formats relative to face to face, increased time in instruction resulting in exhaustion, the need for more effective faculty development, and problems with digital infrastructures. As the author's time in the pandemic increases, they begin to see tests of the extent to which new methods initiated at the start of the pandemic persisted. In compared to pre-COVID times, it took more time to complete coursework as measured by number of assignments, course navigation time online, and number of course activities to be completed.
