ABSTRACT

London Metropolitan University, one of the “new” British universities that strives to promote greater access to higher education, serves a broad population of Londoners, including many immigrants, refugees, and groups of working adults. Like many portfolio-development courses, LMU’s Making Your Experience Count encourages students to explore the relationship between their experiential learning and formal academic courses, outcomes, and ways of knowing. Unlike many courses, however, Making Your Experience Count helps students make connections between their personal history and the broader history of societies in transition.
