ABSTRACT

The Critical Democracy Literacy Series sought to forge a path toward equity in democratic participation through the critical examination of our campus democracy. This chapter seeks to reconcile and grow trust through education around the civic responsibility between the citizen and the democracy. The Critical Democracy Literacy Series set out to engage in the reconciliation process by creating spaces where the two concepts intersect. The Critical Democracy Literacy Series demonstrates the University of Nevada, Reno’s commitment to developing active student citizens. Civic education is practiced in the cocurricular setting on college campuses through student government. Student affairs administrators must grow student civic literacy and democratic engagement.
