ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a focus on the reasons institutions should support initiatives to introduce PBL in the first year; suggests a number of areas in which institutional support can be critical, including faculty development and broader programmatic support; and discusses the institutional challenges and benefits of adding PBL. In recent years, institutions of higher education are dedicating increasing attention and resources to marketing and branding to enhance the school's reputation and visibility. As brick-and-mortar institutions face increasing competition from online options and public debate about the value of a university education, the ability to demonstrate an institution's focus on student-centered learning is critical to the perception of value and to student retention.
