ABSTRACT

This chapter describes why we team teach, how we collaboratively deliver both sides of the coin, and what benefits and challenges it presents for the campus community, its students, and its faculty. Team teaching returns academia to its original mission of unifying rather than segregating knowledge around the central issues of society. Team teaching and collaborative execution of the joint curriculum offers tighter collegiality than departmental ties and research partnerships. Team teaching strengthens interdepartmental ties, brings community members closer together, allows voices from the outside to be heard, and provides professional development opportunities for us as we learn from each other and acquire new pedagogical, research, and even disciplinary insights. Team teaching presents an investment for both the institutions and the individuals concerned.
