ABSTRACT

Projects develop in phases, typically engage teams of students, and deliver interim and final products. Projects are iterative and always interpersonal. Educative assessment is necessary for project work because projects are iterative. Feedback is integral to assessment because feedback drives improvement. Feedback to sponsors takes on its most important role when the outcomes and methods of the project must be negotiated, established, and reviewed. Stakeholders outside the university may have expectations that don't align with the level of skill or amount of time available to first-year students. The fairness issue resides in every team project because teams comprise individuals who work toward a common goal. Some projects are harder to do than others. Some have greater impact. Within a variety of projects, within a given time frame, team size, or team resources, some undertakings are clearly bigger than others. Educative assessment may need more time than traditional methods.
