ABSTRACT

This chapter beings with individualized narratives that illustrate how the particular course affected each of us so deeply yet in different ways. Pedagogical strategies of dissent are spaces in which professors and students can create collaborative strategies to resist, reflect, and grow from experience. Students were able to lead class and to explore knowledge in a pluralistic fashion through a variety of material that could be considered “evidence”——poems, videos of performances, in-class performance exercises, critical dialogue, personal and poetic narratives, and more. Couples with transgender partners, polyamorous partnerships, as well as unmarried heterosexual people of color are further marginalized, although some gain acceptance with the ability to marry. The queer-lesbian body marks gender and sexuality together, demanding political representation while insisting on its specificity. The politic of the racialized body takes on a particular charge.
