ABSTRACT
Black feminisms possess resuscitating and life-giving instruction. This chapter recognizes the historical evidence and present-day suspicion attached to the author's interest and desires to work and write with a Black feminist perspective. It begins the analysis with a reflection from Kiaya that captures the essence of authors' critique. Existentialism deals with “the systematic formulation by an individual or group of an ongoing consciousness of its existence that is first, concretely, realized in everyday intersections and practices”. Limbos model a necessarily complex rendering of agency for minoritized persons that bridges the tenets of intentionality, forethought, self-regulation, and self-reflectiveness with an awareness of one’s histories and vulnerabilities and the notion of self-preservation. This analysis is consistent with Black feminisms and research that suggests that the pursuit of self-actualization is a subordinate goal to which human behavior aspires.
