ABSTRACT

As a couple, we have worked to balance our own educational, personal, and professional development with our commitment to one another and our relationship. Our story is not unique; we are two of the thousands of people who enjoy the benefits and manage the complexities of being in a dual-career couple in higher education. Over the course of our relationship, each of us has made decisions about taking jobs and entering graduate school based in part on our commitment to one another and in part on our commitment to individual growth and development. In this chapter, we trace the history of these decisions, highlighting the ways in which our partnership has influenced the contours of our personal and professional lives. To preserve our individual voices in the context of our partnership, we write at times antiphonally and at times in unison.
