ABSTRACT
Many of the graduates will be process engineers and technical service or consulting engineers responsible for problem solving and management at mill sites. WPS 100 is a critical component in the PSE curriculum. The main challenge for the new format was the constant feeling that not enough material was being covered, and the fear that students would take the path of least resistance and not review the material parked in their Internet lockers. The objective of WPS 415 is to give students a learning experience in which they will work as a group on a multitask problem, similar to the problems that they will face in their first job, such as a mill trial. The approach to IGL within the Paper Science and Engineering Program has been to begin in the freshman year to use active learning techniques that will foster critical thinking and the habit of inquiry.
