ABSTRACT

At its core, sustainability is a natural component of health care. Sustainability supports the basic health-care mission to provide safe, quality, compassionate, and cost-effective care. Sustainability ought to be explored as an effective form of resource stewardship, particularly as the health-care industry strives to meet societal needs and expectations during an era of intense public scrutiny and policy reform. The downstream effects of sustainability in health care are patient, employee, and community health and well-being. Armed with this knowledge, how does one integrate sustainability into health-care management training?
