ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a road map of one college's successful trip toward adopting and using analytics in a community college. Interestingly, the college's decision to appropriate such key institutional team members to the working group was facilitated by an institution-wide presentation by the author's technology partner, who highlighted the potential of the predictive analytics tools to provide actionable insights by analyzing some key pieces of the college's data. Early forays by the group into the predictive analytics work were tentative and gradual, as there were several structural, procedural, and knowledge factors that needed to be addressed at the onset. Specifically, the group shifted its focus from considering the predictive analytics tools in isolation to a model whereby the predictive analytics tools were integrated as one element, albeit a powerful one, in the group's analytics repertoire.
