ABSTRACT

To make the author's data actionable and relevant, they began by conducting research into the field of predictive analytics. For example, they employ the Google Charts library throughout the dashboard and have used this resource to develop time-series graphs and interactive 'what if' analyses that allow campuses to interrogate the data and create regression-driven simulations that quantify the potential impact of their graduation rate improvement efforts. With this expanded audience, they have been able to increase the breadth of our analyses by incorporating a wider variety of new data sets. The California State University Student Success Dashboard uses various external data sources to enrich users understanding of how their students are succeeding. Engaging faculty with analyses at the major level has given them a better understanding of their students progress toward degree, while at the same time identifying areas where increased research is needed to better understand the root causes of the findings.
