ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a more in-depth analysis of the theoretical history of belonging and provides evidence that studies and conversations on the significance of sense of belonging are not novel concepts. It argues that campus environments, campus relationships, and campus involvement lead to academic success. The book discusses how traditional understandings of belonging emphasize connection to the institution without addressing cultural adjustment and connection to home communities, which may conflict. It describes how Asian students experience similar struggles as Latinx students do, as cultural ties can negatively influence a sense of belonging to an institution. The book outlines the cultural gaps that exist for student veterans, which are similar to the cultural challenges that non-White students experience.
