ABSTRACT
The United States is undergoing a radical change in its demographics. It is estimated that by the year 2020, today’s ethnic minorities will be the U.S. population majority. The increase in immigration rates has made the United States an “American mosaic,” with a diverse population consisting of a multitude of cultures. With the strong desire for social mobility, many immigrant children pursue education for social and economic mobility. Many of these first-generation students are attempting to gain access to a quality education and many are struggling to enter higher education and complete a college degree.
