ABSTRACT

An emerging body of research points out many troubling aspects of life in academe for Hispanic faculty. For example, a significant number of Hispanic faculty believe they are the targets of racist beliefs by their non-Hispanic colleagues (Reyes & Halcón, 1988; Uribe & Verdugo 1989). In addition, many Hispanic faculty believe that their non-Hispanic colleagues hold low opinions of their scholarship (Uribe & Verdugo, 1989). For many Hispanic faculty, life in academe is not as bucolic as they might have originally thought.
