ABSTRACT

This paper was submitted as the second of three required book reports in my course, History 134, “Germany in the Twentieth Century.” The student, John Pickering, is a junior history major. He received a B on his first paper, which had some good ideas but lacked even the most elementary organization. I was delighted that for his second effort John managed to write more clearly — using topic sentences and trying to fashion a sustained argument. I was especially concerned that he recognize that he was on the right track, and therefore I did not criticize the order in which he made his points beyond pointing out that the final one should have come first. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003448136/72e9a7a2-5ec1-480f-af90-7150ef33189b/content/ufig3_7_1.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
