ABSTRACT

Arizona State University (ASU), one of the largest universities in the United States, has a strong commitment to serving its sizable transfer population. ASU’s director for community college relations, who reports to the vice provost for academic partnerships, meets with transfer center and advisement center directors and staff at each community or tribal college every semester to provide updates and answer questions. Transfer specialists answer thousands of questions through emails, text messaging, and phone calls. They provide students with tours and visits, webinars, and special events. A major challenge was figuring out how to serve the increasing numbers of transfer students coming to the university and provide personalized information relevant to their specific majors and unique needs and circumstances. The ASU pathway programs were integrated into the University’s eAdvisor system. Success coaching, offered through the First-Year Success Center, is now available for transfer students, with the goal of helping students on everything from transition to transformation.
