ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the process implemented by departments in the Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations project to achieve scaffolded, backward-designed curricula that incorporate research skill development across a four-year undergraduate curriculum. The discussion highlights the most effective strategies utilized for curricular transformation, examines the common challenges encountered in the change process, and shares a variety of mechanisms designed to sustain curricular change. For those interested in developing research-rich curricula, the chapter offers numerous perspectives from institutions that have successfully undertaken profound curricular reform.
