ABSTRACT

The Council for Undergraduate Research (CUR) Transformations project aimed to advance the proven practice of undergraduate research by simultaneously exploring broad questions about the impact of research-rich curriculum on student learning and department change and by fostering departments’ efforts to assess their transformation impacts. This chapter presents the departments’ assessment and research emphases to make the case for the value of evidence-based practice and assessment in educational reform. By documenting departments’ efforts to assess their transformation impacts, this chapter emphasizes the practical and translatable lessons for other departments interested in enacting transformation and adopting an action research and assessment framework.
