ABSTRACT

Angela Locks is an assistant professor at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and an expert on diversity and college access programs in higher education. Diversity praxis is a key element in Angela’s scholarship. Praxis connects theory, research, and practice; components do not operate in silos but rather complement one another. The goal of diversity praxis is to promote educational environment throughout the education pipeline in the United States that serve all students effectively. “Praxis allows research, theory, and practice to become integrated into one’s identity to influence engagement in the various responsibilities (research, teaching, and service) of being a faculty member,” says Angela. Praxis allows Angela to systematically consider whether higher education practitioners are using her research and if the knowledge gained assists them in developing tools that will promote access and equity for underserved populations throughout the education pipeline.
